Scots Go Three-For-Three at Northwestern Pennsylvania Classic

The College of Wooster volleyball team won all three of its matches on the weekend at the Northwestern Pennsylvania Classic. On Friday, the Fighting Scots swept aside Grove City College (25-19, 26-24, 25-14), and then on Saturday, swept Saint Vincent College (25-20, 25-13, 25-19) and took a four-set decision from Morrisville State College (25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 25-18).

In the weekend's opening match, junior Ksenia Klue led the way up front with 10 kills. The Scots' middle hitters also were very productive with sophomore Marija Cyvas tallying eight kills on 19 swings with no errors, while senior Anna Emmick contributed seven kills. Defensively, sophomore Gabrielle Basinski added 25 digs, while junior Taylor Mathews notched her fourth double-double of the year with 32 assists and 10 digs.

During Saturday's first match, Wooster had three student-athletes record either eight or nine kills in Emmick, Klue, and senior Lydia Webster. Wooster had seven blocks with Webster's four and Klue's three leading the way.

Against Morrisville St., the Scots had 10 different players record a kill, and led by Emmick's seven. Wooster's defense also played particularly well, holding the Mustangs to a .097 hitting percentage. Mathews (15), Basinski (14), and sophomore Jordan Murray (11) all had double-digit digs for the Scots.

For the weekend, Emmick led the way with 23 kills, a total that was closely followed by Klue's 22. Defensively, Basinski added 4.70 digs per set.

Basinski and Emmick both earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

After playing its first eight matches of the season in Pennsylvania, Wooster is home for the first time of the 2016 season on Tuesday, when the Scots host John Carroll University in a 7 p.m. tilt at Timken Gymnasium.
