Case Western Reserve Tops Wooster in Scots' NCAC Tournament Tune-Up

The College of Wooster volleyball team tuned up for the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament against 2015 NCAA Div. III Championships qualifier Case Western Reserve University, and the Spartans swept the Fighting Scots 25-14, 25-22, 25-18 on Saturday afternoon at Timken Gymnasium in Wooster, Ohio.

Wooster's (17-9) front row seniors led the way for the Scots on "Senior Day." Anna Emmick recorded team-high eight kills and two blocks, while hitting .318 on the afternoon. Counterpart Lydia Webster logged six kills in the match, and third one moved the outside/middle hitter into the top 10 in program history. Webster surpassed Heather Dales' (1994-97) 911 kills, and now has 914 for her career.

Defensively, sophomore Gabrielle Basinski led the way with nine digs, and classmate Marija Cyvas and Webster each added two blocks up front.

Junior Ksenia Klue delivered an all-around effort with seven kills and six digs.

Wooster rallied back from a five-point deficit midway through the second set with a 6-1 run to tie the match at 19. Case Western Reserve responded with a trio of points to pull ahead 22-19, prior to the two squads trading points the rest of the set.

Notable, Wooster had a 5-0 run in the first set to pull within four at 15-11.

Case Western Reserve (20-8) was paced by a double-double from Shannon Carroll (21 assists, 11 digs) and a match-high 16 kills from Brianna Lemon.

Wooster, the seventh seed for the NCAC Tournament, opens play against second-seeded DePauw University (22-4) at 7 p.m. on Friday at Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio.
