The College of Wooster volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the ninth time in the last 10 years, the coaches' organization announced on Monday.

The Team Academic Award honors collegiate and high school volleyball programs that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 grade-point average during the academic year. Wooster was one of 150 NCAA Div. III programs honored by the AVCA, and one of four among North Coast Athletic Conference institutions.

Individually, five of Wooster's student-athletes were honored earlier this summer with NCAC Academic Honor Roll certificates in recognition of having at least sophomore status and a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average. The Fighting Scots' quintet included recently graduated seniors Anna Emmick, Megan Mey, and Laura Sherer.
