Klue Moves Into 10th All-Time in Kills During Scots' Three-Set Loss to Ladies

Ksenia Klue

WOOSTER, Ohio – Senior Ksenia Klue climbed into The College of Wooster volleyball team's career top 10 list for kills during the Fighting Scots 25-18, 25-18, 25-15 loss to visiting Kenyon College on Tuesday evening at Timken Gymnasium.

Klue, who recorded a team-high eight kills in the contest, is now at 942 for her career, and that moved her past Lydia Webster's (2013-16) 938 for 10th-place. Of note, Klue is seven kills behind Carolyn Ciriegio's (2004-07) ninth-place total, and nine behind Carolyn Bare's (1987-90) 951 that rates as the eighth-most in the program annals.

Kenyon (13-9, 3-3 North Coast Athletic Conference), which hit .325 for the match, pulled away with a 4-0 run in the first set that staked the Ladies to a 17-14 lead after an attack error by the Scots (14-11, 2-4 NCAC). Later, Wooster pulled within two at 17-15 on a kill by junior Marija Cyvas, and two points later at 18-16 after a Lady attack error, but Kenyon responded with a second 4-0 burst in the frame.

Wooster overcame a quick 4-0 deficit in the second set with a 6-0 swing thanks to kills by junior Ashley Plassard, senior Taylor Mathews, and Klue, but back-to-back kills from Kenyon's Delaney Swanson gave the lead right back to the Ladies. Later on in the frame, Wooster pulled within one at 16-15 courtesy of back-to-back kills by Plassard and Klue before Kenyon scored the next three points en route to an eventual 25-18 set win.

An early 4-0 swing shifted the momentum Kenyon's way in the third set, while junior Eleri Miller helped keep the Scots in the hunt with back-to-back kills to cut Wooster's deficit to 7-4, the closest the Scots came in terms of score differential the rest of the match. Outside of Miller's four kills in the frame, Wooster's notable performances included five digs by first-year Meghan Botsch, and a solo block by Cyvas.

Mathews' tallied her team-leading 16th double-double of the year with 24 assists and 11 digs, while junior Gabrielle Basinski backed that up with 10 digs on the night.

Swanson paced all players with 17 digs and 15 skills, while Rachael Thorson backed the Ladies' star up with 13 digs.

Next, Wooster takes on Wittenberg University (17-0, 6-0 NCAC) at noon on Saturday. The Tigers are ranked No. 1 for the fifth straight week in the American Volleyball Coaches Association top 25 poll.
