Top-Ranked Wittenberg Sweeps Wooster

The College of Wooster was tied with top-ranked Wittenberg University at the midway point of the second set before the Tigers regained their form en route to a 25-9, 25-13, 25-15 sweep over the Fighting Scots on Saturday afternoon at Springfield, Ohio.

In the first set, Wooster (14-12, 2-5 North Coast Athletic Conference) recorded three kills within a five-point stretch, two of which were knocked down by junior Eleri Miller. The Scots added a big block in the frame as well with junior Ashley Plassard and senior Ksenia Klue teaming up at the net.

During the second frame, a Plassard kill pulled Wooster within one at 7-6, and later three straight Wittenberg (18-0, 7-0 NCAC) attack errors tied the match at 13. Other positives from the second set included six digs by junior Gabrielle Basinski.

Wooster tied the third set up at six in the early stages courtesy of a Basinski ace. Later on in the frame, a Klue kill had the Scots within four at 14-10.

Klue led the way with a team-high six kills while junior Marija Cyvas had an efficient match with five kills on 11 swings with a single error.

Defensively, Basinski logged a team-high eight digs.

Wittenberg, which hit .306 for the match, had three student-athletes with at least seven kills, including Haley Horner, who finished with a match-high eight.

Defensively, Taylor Brown and Taylor Yontz logged nine digs apiece.

Next, Wooster turns its focus to "Senior Night" as prior to Wednesday's 7 p.m. match versus Denison University (12-11, 4-3 NCAC), the Scots will honor their two seniors - Klue and Taylor Mathews.
