The College of Wooster volleyball team was seamless in multiple facets of the game, most notably with a .333 hitting percentage and eight aces, during the Fighting Scots' 25-8, 25-23, 25-15 win over Franciscan University of Steubenville on Tuesday evening.

Wooster (3-2) couldn't have asked for a better start as the Scots hit .517 in the opening set, and smashed down 16 kills while only having one miscue in the error column. Kills by four different seniors – Mayia Karagianni, McKenzie Reese, Marija Cyvas, and Ashley Plassard – helped stake the Scots to an 8-1 lead. Later in the set, sophomore Meghan Botsch tallied up two kills, and senior Eleri Miller added one during an 8-2 swing that put the Scots up 21-7.

First-year Brooke Swain ignited Wooster in the second set with a kill to pull the Scots within four at 18-14. Reese carried the torch from there with two aces and a pair of kills out of the back row during a 10-0 stretch, during which Wooster pulled ahead 23-18. Franciscan (0-5) warded off three match points before first-year Katie Billetdeaux's set-capping kill.

Plassard and Reese steered the Scots across the finish line by combining for seven of Wooster's 12 third-set kills. The Scots responded with a pair of 3-0 runs with Reese at the service line, and the southpaw served up her third ace of the match during her second trip at the line, and that helped bump the Scots' lead out to nine at 23-14.

Plassard led the Scots with eight kills in the match, while Reese and Cyvas combined for 13 kills on 23 swings.

Defensively, senior Gabrielle Basinski placed a dozen slash marks in the digs' column, while classmate Jordan Murray was right behind with 11.

Botsch dished out a team-high 25 assists while adding four digs and four kills.

Maria Ciola led Franciscan with seven kills to pair with five digs.

Next, Wooster travels to Pennsylvania State University Behrend in Erie, Pa. for a quartet of matches, starting with a 5 p.m. clash against Marietta College (2-2) on Friday, Sept. 7.
