Seniors Gabrielle Basinski and Mayia Karagianni logged career nights with 35 digs and 14 kills, respectively, to lead The College of Wooster volleyball team past host Allegheny College 25-15, 25-22, 18-25, 25-23 on Wednesday evening at the David V. Wise Center in Meadville, Pa.

Wooster's (13-7, 2-2 North Coast Athletic Conference) senior duo kept the Fighting Scots well ahead of Allegheny (5-18, 0-4 NCAC) in the first set, as that's when Basinski logged 10 of her digs and Karagianni smashed down five of her kills. Karagianni's second kill of the match sparked a 10-2 run for Wooster, and the Scots later tacked on a 4-0 run, during which the senior added two more kills.

First-year Brooke Swain's kill at 10-8 in the second set was the first of nine straight Wooster points. During that run, Karagianni and senior Ashley Plassard logged three kills each and teamed up for a double-block. In fact, both Karagianni and Plassard had five kills on nine swings in the second frame.

Allegheny's Grace Lengauer had the hot hand in the third set with six kills to lead the way. However, it was A'Jhana Dicko who came through in the clutch for the Gators with two kills during a three-point stretch that ultimately put Allegheny on top at 18-16.

Wooster jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the fourth set, thanks in large part to a block and a kill by senior McKenzie Reese, who went on to add four more kills later in the frame. Allegheny pulled within a point at 12 different junctures in the set, but Wooster led the frame wire-to-wire.

Coincidentally, Basinski's previous career-high in digs of 34 came against Allegheny as a first-year in 2015. Noteworthy, her 35 digs are tied for the fourth-most in a four-set match during the current scoring era and the most since Rachel Sell's 38 against Allegheny in 2014.

Plassard backed up Karagianni's 14 kills with 10.

Lengauer logged a match-high 15 kills while Allegheny's Rachel Slotterback led the Gators with 29 digs.

Next, Wooster takes on Hiram College (14-3, 3-2) at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Timken Gymnasium
