Senior Salute: Seven Townsel

Seven Townsel Q&A Throughout the spring semester, we are honoring our senior student-athletes with a "Senior Salute" series. Today's featured senior is Seven Townsel, an Africana studies major from Oberlin, Ohio. Townsel is a member of the volleyball team.

Q: Why did you choose to attend The College of Wooster?
A: I chose The College of Wooster for its welcoming environment, astounding academics, and the volleyball program.

Q: What does it mean to you to be a Fighting Scot student-athlete?
A: Being a Fighting Scot student-athlete comes with traits such as versatility and resiliency. To handle the academic rigor while also juggling a varsity sport is not for the weak. I am honored to have had the opportunity to flourish and grow under The College of Wooster's volleyball program.

Q: What are some of your favorite memories as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: All of my favorite memories involve the day-to-day interactions I was blessed to have with my fellow friends, teammates, and professors.

Q: What's the best part about being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster?
A: Being a student-athlete at The College of Wooster has prepared me for future jobs and experiences after graduation.

Q: What else were you involved with on campus besides your sport?
A: I am the vice president of the Black Student Association and the College's NAACP chapter. I am an intern for the Center for Diversity and Inclusion.

Q: Which College of Wooster faculty or staff member has made the greatest impact on you and why?
A: Coach Sarah Davis has made the greatest impact on my four years here. Many coaches are incapable of balancing both the athletic and personal lives of 15 plus women while also raising children! Coach Davis is an astonishing and truly inspirational individual who deserves all of her flowers, especially because she is constantly advocating for everyone around her without an expectation of receiving anything in return. Thank you, Coach Davis, for never giving up on me!

Q: Which other people or resources impacted your Wooster experience in a positive way and how did these people/resources set you up to be successful at Wooster?
A: I give many thanks to Amber Larson in the Academic Resource Center. No matter what, she has always been there when I needed her. Amber has been the most honest and caring person I have come across in my four years here and I can attribute my academic success to her.

Q: Tell us a bit about your Independent Study project?
A: My Independent Study project revolves around Black women and beauty. I am exploring the relationship Black women have with their hair and how it contributes to their identity.

Q: Tell us a bit about something cool you did as a student at The College of Wooster?
A: I loved traveling to Washington D.C. with my teammates during fall break. Coach Davis secured an opportunity for me to see Senator Sherrod Brown's office and meet some of his support staff.

Q: Reflecting back on your time at Wooster, what is one piece of advice you would give your first-year (freshman) self?
A: Give yourself grace.
