Volleyball’s Academic Success Recognized Again

Wooster Volleyball Team AVCA Team Academic Award Release

The College of Wooster volleyball team was among the over 1,200 teams on the United States Marine Corps/American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award list, which was announced by the AVCA on Monday.

The award, which started with the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long GPA of at least 3.30. This is Wooster's 14th time earning the AVCA's Team Academic Award in the last 16 seasons.

The 2021-22 academic year was filled with noteworthy achievements on and off the court. Wooster logged its first 10-match winning streak since 1984 in September, then went on to earn its first berth in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals since 2012. There, Wooster knocked off NCAC champion and top-seeded Denison University 28-26, 25-19, 19-25, 26-24 to advance to its first NCAC Tournament title match since 1985. Three Scots earned All-NCAC honors, including first-teamers Syd Case and Hayley Nash, Katie Billetdeaux and Case were voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-America® team, and Case earned a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. Earlier this summer, 10 Scots qualified for the annual NCAC Academic Honor Roll.
