Five of The College of Wooster's men's cross country runners were among the top-25 at the Otterbein Invitational, as the Fighting Scots finished in second-place out of 17 teams Saturday at Westerville, Ohio, while the women's team also turned in a solid performance, taking seventh in the large field.

In the men's 8K, the only team Wooster finished behind was the University of Mount Union (46), currently ranked No. 5 in the NCAA Div. III Great Lakes Region. The Scots, who scored 76 points, finished ahead of the likes of host Otterbein (121) and North Coast Athletic Conference competitors Denison University (160) and Wittenberg University (503).

Individually, senior Luke Hutchings-Goetz paced Wooster's pack, coming in eighth overall out of 210 runners as he covered the course in 26:38.4, an average mile of 5:22. Derrick Marshall continued his breakout junior season, crossing just nine seconds behind Hutchings-Goetz, good for 11th-place (26:47.9).

Freshmen Blake Pecoraro and Alex Chabraja and senior Morgan Clark also scored for the Scots, coming in just 17 seconds apart. Pecoraro took 19th (27:08.9), Chabraja 23rd (27:19.9), and Clark 25th (27:25.1).

The women's 6K featured two Wooster runners among the top-25, as the Scots scored 240 points. Mount Union also topped that field (42).

Emily Reid, a first-year, and Lauren Buyan, a junior, led Wooster. Reid finished in 22nd among the 199 participants, traveling the course in 24:59.6 as she averaged 6:43 per mile, while Buyan came in moments later in 25th (25:06.5).

Next for the Scots were rookie Kayla Zboran and senior Allison Chin, who were 55th (26:08.6) and 65th (26:36.2), respectively, while also contributing to the team's result was sophomore Sarah Bradley in 99th (27:28.7).

Now, Wooster will prep for the All-Ohio Championships, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 4.
