The College of Wooster cross country teams combined for nine of the top-10 spots in the men's and women's fields at the Twilight 5K Challenge on Friday, as the Fighting Scots had a strong tune-up for next week's NCAA Div. III Great Lakes Regional Championships.

The annual non-scoring meet brought in Grove City College and Hiram College this season.

In the men's competition, Wooster's Luke Hutchings-Goetz, Alex Chabraja, Derrick Marshall, Morgan Clark, and Blake Pecoraro all crossed the finish line before a runner from another school did. Hutchings-Goetz, a two-time all-region award winner, led the way with a 15:18 time, while Chabraja (15:31), Marshall (15:34), and Clark (15:36) all came in within five seconds of each other. Pecoraro notched a clean sweep for the Fighting Scots in fifth (15:45), and also of note, Gabriel Abud and Michael Terribile were seventh (16:08) and eighth (16:15), respectively.

Kayla Zboran, Lauren Buyan, and Emily Reid gave Wooster a 1-2-3 finish in the women's event, with Zboran, a first-year, pacing the 30-person field in a time of 18:40. Buyan crossed seven seconds later (18:47), then Reid (19:05). While a Grove City runner broke up the string of Wooster runners, the Scots' Allison Chin followed in fifth (19:35). Katherine Wittig and Sarah Bradley were also among the top third of the race, taking eighth (20:00) and ninth (20:05), respectively.

The NCAA regional meet will take place at Calvin, Mich., on Nov. 16.
