2014 Academic All-District Team

Lauren Buyan, who recently completed her junior year at The College of Wooster, was one of 13 selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for women's cross country/track & field within NCAA Div. III District 7 (Illinois, Indiana, Ohio), the College Sports Information Directors of America announced on Thursday.

This marks the fourth season in a row Wooster has had a representative on the women's cross country/track & field academic all-district team, and the Fighting Scots have combined for eight such awards during this stretch.

Buyan, who moves on to the ballot for Academic All-American® consideration, was a key part of Wooster's success all three seasons, while maintaining a 3.69 grade-point average and majoring in neuroscience. She scored team points in every cross country meet, leading the Scots to the line twice and taking 30th in the North Coast Athletic Conference (24:50.3) and 90th at the NCAA Div. III Great Lakes Regional (23:56.6).

Buyan's indoor track season was highlighted by a school record and runner-up conference finish in the 4x400 meter relay (4:04.87). Also at the NCAC Championships in March, she ran the anchor of the fifth-place distance medley team (12:57.16) and was less than half a second out of the scoring via a ninth-place run in  the mile (5:20.89). Buyan competed in three events at the NCAC outdoor meet as well, helping the 4x400 team to fifth-place (4:03.09), and individually, finishing seventh in the steeplechase (11:52.86) and taking part in the 1500 meters (5:08.48).

In addition to running throughout the year and maintaining a 3.69 GPA, Buyan still manages to be very active on campus. She is a resident assistant, the co-president of the College's First Responders, a member of the Women's Athletic and Recreation Association, and a student researcher in the chemistry department.
