Men's 8K Results | Women's 5K Results

The College of Wooster's men's and women's cross country teams posted strong results in their first scored meet of the year, as the Fighting Scot men bested nine other schools to take the team championship at the Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational, while the women placed fifth in a field of 11 on Saturday at Delaware, Ohio.

The men just missed winning this event last year, when they placed second, but got the job done today behind two top-six individual performances across the 8K course. Wooster's quickest time went to Joe David, who crossed the finish line fourth out of 117 runners with a time of 26:20.4. Right behind him was Blake Pecoraro in 26:23.6, which was good for sixth-place overall.

Leading the men's other scorers was Derrick Marshall in 11th (25:53.1), while William Wojtkiewicz (27:39.3), Karl Stemen (27:58.5), Albert Darling (28:03.2), and Herbert Sizek (28:34.4) finished 23rd, 27th, 28th, and 39th, respectively.

The women's fifth-place finish put them ahead of North Coast Athletic Conference schools Kenyon College (sixth) and Wittenberg University (eighth), and just behind fourth-place Ohio Wesleyan.

Lauren Buyan was about 13 seconds off top-10 pace, but was still strong in taking 13th in a crowded field of 135 runners with a time of 19:52.8.

Many of the women's other scorers ran as a pack and came in around the same time, with Rachelle Herrin in 28th (20:30.9), Gabriella Neubauer in 29th (20:32.2), and Mackenzie Kellar in 30th (20:32.3), followed closely by Erin Andrews-Sharer in 33rd (20:38.7), Kayla Zboran in 34th (20:40.0), and Kathleen Jackson in 46th (20:57.4).

Wooster will take a week off before competing at the Otterbein Invitational in Westerville, Ohio on Sept. 20.
