Blake Pecoraro turned in an individual all-region performance to lead The College of Wooster men, the women's team improved four spots in the standings, and both finished among the top half of their respective fields at Saturday's NCAA Div. III Great Lakes Region Cross Country Championships, which took place at Wilmington, Ohio.

Among 35 squads, Wooster's women placed 15th, a solid improvement over last season's 19th, while the Fighting Scot men's team came in 17th out of 37.

Sophomore Kayla Zboran and senior Lauren Buyan ran closely together during the 6K meet. In fact, the Wooster teammates crossed half a second apart, Zboran in 61st overall (23:11.1) and Buyan 62nd (23:11.6).

The Scots' other scorers were also all among the top half of the 247 total competitors. Senior Rachelle Herrin was the 100th finisher (23:54.5), followed by first-years Gabrielle Neubaurer in 105th (24:00.3) and Mackenzie Kellar in 114th (24:11.0).

Pecoraro, a sophomore, earned his second all-region award in as many attempts by staying with the lead pack throughout most of the 8K and taking 21st overall with a time of 25:03.3. There were 255 men's competitors.

A tightly bunched quartet of Wooster runners accounted for its remaining scoring, with seniors Derrick Marshall, Joe David, and Karl Stemen filing in at 110th (26:17.2), 116th (26:27.7), and 121st (26:30.2), respectively, and sophomore Alexander Chabraja at 130th (26:37.9).
