Academic All-District Team

Joe David, who recently graduated magna cum laude from The College of Wooster, was named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team for men's cross country/track & field, announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Friday. Being a first-team award winner, David will now be considered for a spot on the Academic All-America Team®.

David, who never ran competitively until his sophomore year of college, developed not only into Wooster's No. 1 distance runner, but one of the best in the North Coast Athletic Conference. At last fall's NCAC Cross Country Championships, he ran with the lead pack and eventually crossed the 8K in 27:01.6, good for 12th-place and second-team all-conference recognition.

Also a significant factor on the track, David scored team points for the Fighting Scots at the NCAC's as he came in sixth-place in the 10,000 meters with a time of 32:52.21. He also regularly competed in the 5000 meters.

When not running, David was busy excelling in the classroom as he carried a 3.84 GPA while majoring in biochemistry and molecular biology. Among his many academic honors, David earned membership to Tri-Beta (biology honor society) and was the recipient of the College's prestigious William Galpin award, presented annually to just two Wooster men for general excellence in college work.

Wooster student-athletes compete for CoSIDA academic all-district honors within NCAA Div. III District 7 (Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio).
