Scots Excel in Women's 4K at Season-Opening Wooster Invite

Wooster kicked off the 2015 season by having the top-eight finishers in the women's 4K.

The College of Wooster cross country team had the top-eight finishers in the women's 4K, highlighting the Fighting Scots' results from the season-opening Wooster Invitational, which took place Tuesday at the challenging L.C. Boles Golf Course on campus.

The annual meet, which is not team scored, featured four different events – the women's 4K, women's 5K, men's 5K, and men's four mile – with participants from Baldwin Wallace University, Lorain Community College, and Oberlin College.

Making her collegiate debut a memorable one was Wooster first-year Collier Summay, who overcame the hilly course and hot, humid conditions to outlast 24 other competitors while covering the 4K in a time of 16:07.4. She was followed closely by sophomore Mackenzie Kellar (16:10.7), and junior teammates Katherine Wittig and Kayla Zboran were third (16:33.3) and fourth (16:47.9), respectively.

A number of other young runners for the Scots showed strong potential, as first-years Emani Kelley (17:05.7), Julia Higgins (17:30.7), and Sophie Hawkins (17:34.4) crossed the line next. Junior Jacquelyn White (17:38.5) was the team's eighth consecutive runner to finish.

In a very competitive men's four mile that featured 34 runners, Wooster was paced by junior standout Blake Pecoraro, who earned sixth-place (22:16.0), and freshman Brian Lief, who took ninth (22:59.4).

Another notable result was turned in by Patrick Scanlon, as the Scot junior was third (19:27.2) out of 22 competitors in the men's 5K.

Wooster will return to action next Saturday at the North Coast Athletic Conference Preview meet, hosted by Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio.
