Westcott Advances to NCAA DIII Championships after 7th Place Regional Finish

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – For the first time since 2003, a Fighting Scot will be racing in the NCAA Division III Championships.

Senior David Westcott finished seventh of 265 runners with a time of 25:11.7 as the cross-country teams competed in the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional on Saturday in Shelbyville, Ind. He earns All-Region and gets to make the trip to Oshkosh, Wis. to represent the Scots in the NCAA Division III Championships.

Brendan Callahan was the last to accomplish the feat in 2003. He finished ninth in the regional (25:51) and later finished 177th in the final race (27:46).

Overall, the men finished eighth with a total of 282 points. The top two teams in Calvin College and Otterbein University advanced, scoring 56 and 95 points, respectively.

Senior Brian Lief also earned All-Region honors after a 17th-place showing with a time of 25:44.9. He still has a shot of joining Westcott at the NCAA DIII Championships depending on how many at large teams are selected from the Great Lakes Region for next Saturday's DIII Championships.

Jackson Feinknopf placed 44th with a time of 26:07.6. Simon Weyer (100th, 26:54.4) and Matt Klonowski (114th, 27:04.4) rounded out the top five to score.

Ohio Northern University's Ian McVey finished at 24:52.5 for the top time.

The women finished in the middle of the pack at 17th of the 33 teams. Baldwin Wallace University edged Allegheny College for first place by seven points.

Freshman Isabelle Hoover led the way for the Scots with a 68th place finish with a time of 23:35. Emani Kelley followed in 94th (24:05.7), and Kayla Bertholf was not far behind at 101st (24:08.2).

Amirah Yessoufou (109th, 24:17.7) and Emma Busch (134th, 24:45) rounded out the scoring for the Scots.

Claire Lamb of Otterbein was the top runner (20:58.7).

Looking ahead, Westcott will compete next Saturday in the NCAA Division III Championships at Oshkosh, Wisc.
