Scots Make the Grade Again with USTFCCCA Academic Honors

Wooster Cross Country Teams 2022 USTFCCCA Cross Country Academic Awards

The College of Wooster cross country teams are consistently in the top group of collective academic achievement within the Fighting Scots' 23 varsity sports, and that is the case once again, with both the men and women earning the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team honor for the 2022 season. Additionally, senior Isabelle Hoover was a USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete, as announced by the organization on Thursday.

Wooster's women's cross country team, which had the highest GPA among all varsity sports at the College for the fall semester, earned the coaching organization's team academic award for the 18th time in the last 19 seasons. Wooster's men claimed the award for the 17th time in the last 18 years. Wooster's women had a 3.7 GPA, while the men computed to a 3.31.

Hoover, a five-time USTFCCCA All-Academic Athlete, repeated as a first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference performer this fall. The senior improved to fourth-place at the conference meet, becoming Wooster's highest conference finisher since W Association Hall of Famer Katie Wieferich won the 2006 individual conference title. Hoover's fourth-place finish marked a three-spot improvement from the 2021 championships, and her time was 23:54.9. During the cross country season, the art history and classical languages major earned her ninth- and 10th-career NCAC Athlete of the Week awards.

Criteria for the team honor includes scoring at a NCAA regional meet and posting a minimum cumulative team GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale. Individual honorees must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and finish in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet.
