Saran Recognized by NCBWA for Stellar Outings Last Week

 Nanak Saran

Sophomore Nanak Saran from The College of Wooster baseball team was named a honorable mention Div. III National Pitcher-of-the-Week as announced by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Thursday afternoon.

Saran, who picked up a pair of wins on the mound last week, extended his consecutive scoreless streak to 20 innings in wins over Kenyon College and Oberlin College. The North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher-of-the-Week held the Lords scoreless for seven innings of an April 27 12-1 win, before tossing a five-hit, nine-inning shutout in a 6-0 win over the Yeomen on May 1.

In 16 innings of work, the right-hander scattered just nine hits and struck out 10 batters.

Saran is the first Wooster student-athlete honored by the NCBWA since Kyle Cunningham-Rhoads earned the weekly honor for his perfect game in 2012.

Wooster (27-9) is slated to be in action this afternoon with a 4 p.m. home non-conference tilt against Otterbein University (27-8).
