WOOSTER, Ohio – The 10th-ranked College of Wooster baseball team was nearly flawless in all facets of the game on Saturday, as the Fighting Scots won by identical 15-1 scores in a doubleheader against Ohio Wesleyan University at Art Murray Field.

Wooster (12-4, 4-0 North Coast Athletic Conference), which scored during 10 of its 12 trips to the dish, quickly found itself up five in game one after junior Nick Strausbaugh blasted a grand slam out to center field. Prior to Strausbaugh's four-bagger, Wooster twice loaded the bases, and senior Garrett Crum's sacrifice fly made it a 1-0 game.

In the second inning, senior Jacob Stuursma drew a one-out walk, and then motored around the bases when sophomore Noah Clement roped a two-bagger into the gap.

Sticking with Stuursma, the Scots' shortstop upped the lead to 7-0 in the fourth inning with the second of four game-one round-trippers. One of the other two dingers came off Crum's bat, and the two-run shot was extra memorable given that it was the Scots' standout first baseman's 150th career hit. Junior Dan Gail clubbed the final homer of the game in the sixth inning, and it was a two-run blast that made it 15-1.

Junior Nick Strausbaugh hit a first-inning grand slam in game one of Wooster's 15-1, 15-1 sweep over Ohio Wesleyan.

Senior Chandler Dippman (4-1) turned in one of his top outings of the year on the bump. The right-hander went the distance, allowing one run on five hits in seven innings. Thanks to great defense behind him, Dippman set down 12 of the final 13 batters he faced, 11 of whom put a ball in play. Earlier in the game, the right-handed utility ace set down seven straight before giving up two straight singles to start the fourth.

Wooster's game-one defensive efforts were headlined by Clement's catch on the extension in the second inning.

Linden Hoover (0-2) took the loss after allowing nine runs on five hits in 4 1/3 innings.

Sophomore Andrew Hill (2-0) was even more dominant in game two for the Scots with a complete-game, three-hitter. The right-hander helped his own cause with one of the Scots' top defensive plays of the year in the third. Hill snared a comebacker to the mound and ran over to touch first for the unassisted double play.

Wooster's offense wasted no time supporting Hill, as the Scots loaded the bases on Stuursma's single and back-to-back walks, before junior Dan Harwood's RBI ground out and Gail's sacrifice fly staked the good guys to a 2-0 lead.

Ohio Wesleyan (8-12, 1-3 NCAC) scored its run in the second. After firing an impressive 14 straight strikes to start the game, Hill missed the zone on his subsequent two pitches, the second of which found its way to the backstop, giving Cole Antle ample time to score on the wild pitch.

Dippman answered right back in the bottom of the second with a leadoff round-tripper, in what marked his second long ball of the week. Wooster's big sticks kept plugging away against Justin Grubb (0-2), with first-year Ben Gbur legging out an infield single, and scooting home on Witwer-Dukes' opposite-field base knock.

An inning later, it was Gbur's triple that chased Grubb from the game after 2 2/3 innings, while Stuursma greeted Ethan Soderna with a RBI double. In fact, Wooster tagged Soderna for eight runs in 2/3 of an inning, with Harwood's two-run double serving as the biggest knock during the Battling Bishops' sophomore's stint on the bump.

Wooster's final run of the game came in the sixth when pinch hitters Tyler Iversen and Ethan Myers clubbed doubles.

Defensively, the Scots turned a pair of double plays in the game, including a 3-6-1 one to end the contest

Crum's seven RBI on the day led all players, while Gbur and Witwer-Dukes tallied four hits apiece. Stuursma led the Scots with five runs in the sweep.

Antle's three hits led the way for OWU.

Next, Wooster's at La Roche College for a twin bill on Sunday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
