WOOSTER, Ohio – Senior Chandler Dippman fired a two-hit masterpiece in game one, and the seventh-ranked College of Wooster baseball team provided plenty of offensive fireworks during a 10-0, 8-7 sweep over visiting Wabash College on Saturday afternoon at Art Murray Field.

Dippman (5-2) was dominant from first pitch, as the right-hander set down the first nine Little Giants (13-14, 1-6 North Coast Athletic Conference) before Jared Wolfe's fourth-inning leadoff single leaked through the right side of the infield. However, Wolfe was quickly erased, when Jackson Blevins rolled an 0-1 Dippman offering to junior second baseman Harry Witwer-Dukes, who started a 4-6-3 double play.

Wabash threatened in the fifth inning when a two-out walk and a Wooster (15-6, 6-0 NCAC) error put the first of two Little Giants in scoring position for the game. Dippman quickly recovered and snared a comebacker to the mound for the final out of the fifth.

Dippman who struck out four during his shutout, helped his cause offensively with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the frame. Wooster tacked on two more long balls in the inning, including a two-run blast to left center by senior Garrett Crum, which made it a 6-0 game. Witwer-Dukes, who went yard with a solo homer in the fourth, did likewise as the Scots went back-to-back in the fifth. Senior Jacob Stuursma finished off the five-spot with a RBI single up the middle to plate freshman Ben Gbur, who reached via a hit by pitch.

Wooster, which blasted five home runs in game one, saw junior Nick Strausbaugh go yard in the fourth inning with a solo shot to left center, with that long ball upping the lead to 3-0.

The Scots struck early with Dippman drawing a one-out walk in the first, and he scored on junior Dan Harwood's two-bagger.

Wooster closed game one early when junior Tyler Iversen's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh invoked the NCAC regular-season run-rule.

Kase Lawson fell to 3-2 on the season for Wabash. The Little Giants' starter was roughed up for six runs on eight hits in four innings.

In the nightcap, Gbur's one-hop strike to junior Dan Gail preserved the win, as the Little Giants were on the verge of tying the game at eight in the ninth inning, but Blevins was unable to elude Gail's tag. Senior Brian Murray took matters into his own hands from there and shut the door on Wabash's comeback bid when Andrew Jumonville was rung up on a 2-2 offering.

Senior Garrett Crum became the 20th Wooster great to reach 150 RBI, and he did so with a go-ahead double in the seventh inning of game two on Saturday.

Wooster needed to rally past Wabash to keep its perfect ledger in league play intact, and the Scots accomplished that in the seventh inning. Dippman walked to start the frame and Harwood reached on a dropped fly ball, setting the stage for Crum, who became the 20th Wooster great to reach 150 RBI when he doubled in the go-ahead run. The Scots later made it an 8-6 game on Strausbaugh's RBI ground out.

Wooster led game two 3-1 after one, with Crum's second home run of the afternoon going down as a two-run shot. Crum's dinger came on the heels of Harwood's one-out, run-producing two-bagger down the left field line.

In the third inning, Gail's bases-loaded walk made it a 4-2 game, while Gbur's first collegiate round-tripper upped the ante to 5-2 in the fourth. However, Wabash pulled even in the fifth, thanks to Erich Lange, who uncorked a three-run dinger over the right field scoreboard.

Wabash's big bats were out in force in game two, and thanks in part to the hitter-friendly wind that oftentimes leads to homers in bunches, the Little Giants went yard four times. The second-to-last long ball of the day came off the bat of Sean Roginski, who clobbered a leadoff shot in the sixth to pull Wabash on top 6-5. In the eighth, Matthew Annee's solo shot inched the Little Giants within one.

Sophomore Evan Faxon picked up his first win of the season. The Scots' southpaw struck out four, while allowing one run on four hits in his 2 1/3 innings of relief. Murray logged the final two outs of the game for his first save.

Dylan Scheid took the loss and fell to 1-3. Both batters he faced scored during the Scots' three-run seventh.

Crum's afternoon consisted of a 5-for-8 showing with six RBI, four extra-base hits, and three runs. Four Scots had at least three hits on the day, including Harwood, who scored a co-team-high four times.

Annee's four hits paced Wabash, while Blevins and Lange had three base knocks apiece.

Next, Wooster's at Oberlin College (12-11, 4-4 NCAC) for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 16. First pitch is set for noon.
