The 15th-ranked College of Wooster baseball team stormed back late with eight runs over the final two innings to down the University of Mount Union 9-7 on Monday afternoon at 23rd Street Field in Alliance, Ohio.

Wooster (22-8) took the lead in the top of the ninth on freshman Tyler Chumita's sacrifice bunt. Mount Union's (20-13) Thomas Yuras misfired on his throw to retire Chumita, which enabled junior Aaron Spidell to score from second. Chumita kept going and a subsequent Purple Raiders' throwing error brought Chumita all the way around for the Fighting Scots' ninth run of the game. Prior to the chaos on the bases, Spidell led off the inning with a two-bagger.

An inning prior, Wooster erupted for six runs off Mount Union's bullpen to tie the game at seven. After loading the bases to start the inning, Chumita's single plated freshman Ben Gbur, who singled to lead off the inning. Wooster crept closer when junior Nick Strausbaugh drew a bases-load walk, then senior Jacob Stuursma delivered a two-run single to make it a 7-5 game. Junior Harry Witwer-Dukes knotted the game up with a one-out, two-run single, which scored Stuursma and junior Dan Harwood, who was hit by a pitch for the second time in the game.

Nine Wooster pitchers toed the rubber in the win, with each pitching an inning. That list included freshman Dylan Carr, who picked up his first collegiate win with a scoreless eighth. After issuing a one-out walk, Carr caught Joey Nave wandering too far off first, and subsequently picked off the Purple Raiders' sophomore.

Senior Wyatt Linde quickly slammed the door shut on any potential comeback bid, as the Purple Raiders went down in order in the ninth. The southpaw collected his first collegiate save.

Wooster looked good at the onset, as the first three Scots reached safely prior to senior Garrett Crum plating the game's first run with a fielder's choice.

Mount Union did its damage in the second and fourth innings, and through four, the Purple Raiders had the Scots on the ropes, 7-1, which is where the score stood until Wooster's eighth-inning rally.

In addition to Carr, sophomore Jack Jones, senior Ethan Myers, and freshman Colin Springer helped bridge the gap from the fourth until Wooster's offense took over in the eighth. The quartet combined to set down 11 of the 13 batters they faced over the fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth innings.

Chumita, Stuursma, and Witwer-Dukes finished with two hits each, while the latter two accounted for four of the Scots' seven RBI. Crum added a base knock as well, which upped his hitting streak to 22 straight games.

Nick Satovich was the lone Purple Raider to have a multi-hit game.

Noteworthy, Wooster's now won 22 straight games over Mount Union.

Next, Wooster (11-1 North Coast Athletic Conference) hosts Wittenberg University (17-14, 7-7 NCAC) in a doubleheader on Wednesday at noon.
