Faxon's Big Start Leads to NCAC Pitcher of the Week Honor

Sophomore Evan Faxon was instrumental in helping the 10th-ranked College of Wooster baseball team clinch its unprecedented fourth straight North Coast Athletic Conference title over the weekend, and on Monday the North Coast Athletic Conference selected the southpaw as its Pitcher of the Week.

Faxon fired 8 1/3 innings of shutout baseball during Wooster's 1-0 win over Kenyon College on Saturday. He now hasn't been charged with a run in his last five outings, a stretch that spans 19 innings. During that time, Faxon's scattered nine hits and has struck out 12.

Overall, Faxon worked 12 shutout innings last week, as he also toed the rubber for 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief against Wittenberg University on May 1.

Faxon is the third Scot to earn NCAC Pitcher of the Week honors this season.

Wooster's league title is the program's NCAC-leading 19th.

Wooster (24-10, 13-3 NCAC) is set to open play at the NCAC Tournament against Wabash College (21-17, 9-8 NCAC) at 10 a.m. on Thursday. The league championship is taking place Thursday and Friday at V.A. Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio.
