2019 All-NCAC Release

The North Coast Athletic Conference champions placed seven student-athletes on the 2019 all-conference team, while The College of Wooster's baseball team's head coach Tim Pettorini was chosen by his peers as the NCAC Coach of the Year for the 14th time. The All-NCAC selections were announced on Wednesday morning.

Senior Chandler Dippman was a repeat selection to the all-conference first-team as a utility player, while the right-hander made his debut pitching appearance as a second-team selection. Remarkably, Dippman's earned all-conference honors at three different positions during his time with the Black and Gold. The do-it-all senior was a first-team selection at third base in 2018. This season, Dippman's posted a 7-3 record with a 4.09 ERA spanning a team-best 61 2/3 innings. The righty leads the NCAC with three complete games, which were headlined by a two-hit shutout against Wabash College in April. Offensively, Dippman's above .300 for the fourth straight year, with his season slash line entering the regional standing at .302/.390/.519. Dippman's five round-trippers are tied for third on the team, and he's 32-for-106 at the dish with 21 runs scored.

Dippman was joined on the all-conference first-team by repeat selections Garrett Crum and Dan Harwood (designated hitter), while junior centerfielder Nick Strausbaugh and junior second baseman Harry Witwer-Dukes made their debuts on the all-conference squad as first-team honorees.

Crum, a three-time all-conference honoree, leads the Scots with a .401 average (61-for-152). The Scots' standout first baseman ranks second on the team with 44 RBI, and he's second with 15 two-baggers. He became the 12th Wooster great to log a 20-game hitting streak this season, reaching the milestone against Denison University on April 27. Crum tacked on three more games to his run before Wittenberg University held him hitless on May 1.

Harwood, who has split time between designated hitter and left field this year, is one of two Scots entering the regional with a .400 average. The smooth-swinging left-hander ranks third on the team with 43 RBI, and he's tied for third with five round-trippers on the year. Of Harwood's 56 base knocks, 23 have gone for extra bases.

Strausbaugh, who debuted on the all-conference team for baseball this spring, enters play at the regional tops on the team and third within the NCAC with eight long balls. Strausbaugh's closing in on 50 hits for the season (.309, 46-for-149), and he's one of four players with at least 35 runs on the year.

Witwer-Dukes has turned in a fine season in his first full year as a starter. He's batting .370 (51-for-138) and is tops on the team with 45 RBI. Primarily the Scots' second baseman, Witwer-Dukes has amassed 12 doubles, six homers, and four triples thus far in 2019.

Senior shortstop Jacob Stuursma joined Dippman (pitching) as a second-team selection. Now a two-time all-conference performer, Stuursma's hitting .387 (60-for-155) on the year with his 60 base knocks ranking one behind Crum for the team lead. Stuursma's set the table well for Wooster's offense, which enters the week in the top 10 nationally in scoring. The three-year starter leads Wooster with 46 runs on the year.

Sophomore Evan Faxon rounded out Wooster's honorees. The southpaw collected an honorable mention certificate after posting a 6-1 record with a conference-leading 2.42 ERA. Faxon's logged 15 appearances in 2019, including seven starts. He's allowed 14 runs on 44 hits in 52 1/3 innings of work. This season, Faxon's held the opposition to a .238 average.

Pettorini, who guided his Scots to a NCAC-leading 19th conference title, has been tabbed by his peers as the league's top skipper in four of the last five years. Overall, Pettorini's won 1,239 games heading into this week's regional tournament. He previously was the conference's top skipper in 1985, 1987-88, 1990, 1995, 2002, 2004, 2006-07, 2010, and 2015-17.

Wooster's hosting a four-team regional this weekend at Art Murray Field. More info on that can be found HERE.
