2019 ABCA/Rawlings All-America Release
The College of Wooster's Dan Harwood and Harry Witwer-Dukes were among the All-Americans announced by the American Baseball Coaches Association and Rawlings on Thursday evening following the opening ceremony of the NCAA Div. III World Series in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Witwer-Dukes was tabbed as the ABCA/Rawlings' first-team second baseman, while Harwood was a second-team selection at designated hitter.
Witwer-Dukes' selection gives the tradition-rich program a first-team ABCA/Rawlings All-American for three straight seasons, and he's just the fourth Fighting Scots' second baseman to be tabbed to ABCA's prestigious team. Of the four, Witwer-Dukes joins W Association Hall of Famer Matt Miller as the program's only second basemen who were first-team ABCA All-Americans.
Witwer-Dukes led the way for the North Coast Athletic Conference champions with 56 RBI to pair with a .390/.482/.665 slash line. He was 64-for-164 at the dish this year.
Harwood is the eighth Wooster great to earn at least two All-American certificates from the ABCA. The Scots' slugger, who was also a second-team honoree in 2018, became the second Wooster designated hitter to be tabbed as an All-American by the ABCA as a sophomore.
Harwood led Wooster with a .424 average (70-for-165), while his .538 on-base percentage, 53 runs, and 28 walks were tops on the team. The Scots' designated hitter tallied 49 RBI this year, the third-most on the team.
A panel of Div. III coaches selects just 50 players across three teams, including only 15 first-team honorees. The ABCA has selected a Div. III All-America team since 1976.
On Tuesday, both Harwood and Witwer-Dukes were named to D3baseball.com's All-America Team. Harwood was a first-team honoree and Witwer-Dukes was a second-team selection by the popular online website dedicated to Div. III baseball.
With Harwood and Witwer-Dukes' latest honors, Tim Pettorini's Fighting Scots earned a combined 59 All-American certificates (ABCA and D3baseball.com).
