WOOSTER, Ohio – Sophomore Caitlyn O'Connor scored twice to lead The College of Wooster field hockey team to a key 4-2 North Coast Athletic Conference win over visiting DePauw University on Saturday morning at John P. Papp Stadium.

Wooster (11-5, 7-4 NCAC), which logged its first win over DePauw (8-8, 5-6 NCAC) since the Tigers joined the NCAC in 2011, struck first in the 19th minute. First-year Katie Agatucci delivered a strong through ball that was deflected into the cage by O'Connor.

Prior to O'Connor's goal, Wooster had plenty of offensive momentum as the Scots peppered the Tigers with four shot attempts in the first 6:24 of the game, and had five penalty corners leading up to the opening score.

DePauw tied the game at one with just under six minutes left in the first half. Kate Milner, who now leads the NCAC with 19 goals, delivered the tying score by finishing a cross from Cathy Zesiger.

Junior Harriet Sudduth blasted in the go-ahead score from just inside the circle on a penalty corner in the 42nd minute. O'Connor bumped the lead to two with a rebound goal in the 60th minute.

DePauw answered O'Connor's second goal 57 ticks later when Milner deflected in Gretchen Bechthold's shot from the top of the circle, and that goal was reminiscent of the teams' 2016 meeting at John P. Papp Stadium that featured a pair of sequences during which each team scored within a two-minute span of an eventual 6-5 win by the Tigers.

Sophomore Sydney Schuster tacked on an insurance goal in the final 10 seconds of the contest. On that play, the Scots' leading goal scorer spun around the Tigers' defense prior to sending her shot into the cage.

DePauw's Allie Duranceau tallied a game-high six saves, while Wooster sophomore Katie Shideler added four. Both teams added a defensive save, with Wooster's coming from senior Katie Padavick.

Wooster outshot DePauw 20-11 and finished with an 11-6 edge in penalty corners.  

With the win, Wooster now has a two-game lead over Ohio Wesleyan University (9-6, 6-6 NCAC) for third-place in the conference standings, and the Scots are one game back of second-place Kenyon College (9-5, 8-3 NCAC).

Wooster's weekend wraps up with an 11 a.m. home tilt against Earlham College (7-9, 3-8 NCAC) on Sunday.
