WOOSTER, Ohio – The margin of victory in a fourth straight field hockey contest between The College of Wooster and Kenyon College was one, only this time it was the Ladies coming away victorious by a 2-1 score on Thursday evening at John P. Papp Stadium.

Kenyon's (6-2) Sarah Metzmaier accounted for both of the Ladies' scoring tallies on the night, with her game-winner coming in the 49th minute. Olivia O'Connor crossed the ball from the wing, and Metzmaier was well-positioned in front of the cage to deflect it in for her sixth goal of the year. She started the night's scoring in the eighth minute with a rebound goal.

Wooster (3-4) senior Harriet Sudduth tied the game with her first goal of the season in the 42nd minute. Junior Maggie Brown inserted a penalty corner to the top, and Sudduth fired off the shot from just inside the circle.

The Scots' best chance to tie the game down the stretch came with just under 10 minutes remaining. The Ladies' Paulina Mendez was able to get a stick on a lead pass, that had it gone through, Wooster could've been in position to have the numbers up field.

Junior Katie Shideler turned aside 11 Kenyon shots, and it was the mathematics and physics double major's calculated efforts on several other plays that disrupted the Ladies' transition threats. Twice Shideler knocked aside lead entry passes from outside the circle, and then in the final minute of the third quarter, the Ladies' Orcin Akman beat the Scots down the field, looked to cross as Shideler came out, and Wooster was able to get back in time to keep that scoring threat from materializing any further.

Kenyon finished with a 19-3 edge in shots and a 9-3 advantage on penalty corners.

As alluded to earlier, all three meetings last year were one-goal margins of victory. The Scots won all three, including the last two by 2-1 scores, with the second one coming in the semifinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

Wooster returns to the field for a 7 p.m. tilt against Washington & Jefferson College (2-4) on Wednesday, October 2.
