The College of Wooster field hockey team could not replicate the success it had in its season opener against Wittenberg University and fell 2-0 in their North Coast Athletic Conference season opener on Saturday.

The Scots opened the year with a 4-2 win over the Tigers in non-conference action, but they could not find the back of the cage Saturday for the second straight game.

Wittenberg went up early in the seventh minute behind a goal from Caroline Ford and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. A third period goal from Alex Reed essentially put the game away.

Junior goalkeeper Katie Shideler did all should could, recording a season-high 15 saves. Sophomore Katie Agatucci had two shots on goal to lead the way for Wooster.

Wittenberg took 14 penalty corners, while Wooster took just four. The Tigers outshot the Scots 28-8.

Wooster falls to 3-6 and 0-1 in the NCAC, while Wittenberg improves to 4-5 and 1-0 in conference play. Wooster returns to action Tuesday when they host Ohio Wesleyan University in another NCAC matchup.
