The College of Wooster field hockey team could not overcome an early 2-0 deficit and fell 2-1 to Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday.

Ohio Wesleyan's Ashley Barno and Jamie Grant teamed up for the Battling Bishops' only two goals. Barno scored first in the seventh minute off an assist from Grant before repaying the favor on Grant's goal three minutes later.

The score remained 2-0 until junior Caitlyn O'Connor scored from the front of the cage after receiving a pass from atop the circle from sophomore Katie Agatucci. It was O'Connor's team-leading sixth goal of the season as it broke a scoring drought that reached 11 quarters for the Scots.

Wooster battled throughout despite being outshot 18-2. They had one of their three penalty corners in the fourth but could not capitalize on it to tie the game.

Junior keeper Katie Shideler collected eight saves. Her counterpart, Marie Overing, had just one save.

Wooster is now 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the NCAC. Ohio Wesleyan is 8-2 overall and now tied atop the NCAC at 2-0.

Wooster travels to Denison University on Saturday.
