2011-12 D3hoops.com All-America Team

The College of Wooster's Justin Hallowell was named to the D3hoops.com All-America Team, earning third-team honors from the highly-respected website, it was announced Saturday in conjunction with the national championship game of the 2012 NCAA Div. III Men's Basketball Championship. Wooster has now had a representative on the elite 25-member All-America Team six out of the last seven seasons.

Hallowell's national recognition was well deserved and likely came due to a strong finish to his career that saw the 6-7 senior forward average 19.6 points and 8.0 rebounds during the Fighting Scots' final eight games, boosting his season marks to 13.9 points and 6.8 rebounds, both team highs. Exhibiting an all-around game, Hallowell scored in a variety of ways (76 3-pointers, 69 two-point field goals, and 65 free throws) and was arguably Wooster's top interior defender.

After the Scots narrowly missed out on extending their streak of NCAC championships to eight, Hallowell led No. 2 seeded Wooster to a fourth-straight NCAC Tournament title. First, he knocked down a 3-pointer to break a 51-51 tie with less than 40 seconds to go during the quarterfinals, propelling the Scots to a 59-51 victory as part of a 25-point night. After a 13-point, nine-rebound, three-block performance in the semis, Hallowell shared team scoring honors with 14 as Wooster gutted out a 53-51 championship win, and following it, he was named the tournament MVP for the second time.

Hallowell's strong play continued during the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament, tallying 23 points in the first round and 20 in the second to lift the Scots into the sectional (Round of 16) for the third year in a row. He played an integral role in Wooster's near-comeback victory that round, as the Scots erased a 17-point hole (44-27), tying it at 67 before Illinois Wesleyan University ended their season 69-67 on a late jumper.

Hallowell, who was previously voted first-team all-conference as well as all-Great Lakes by both D3hoops.com and the National Association of Basketball Coaches, capped his career with 1,491 points, tying for eighth all-time on Wooster's scoring list. He connected on a conference-record 305 3-pointers, and also ranks fourth in school history in free throw percentage (.838; 218-for-260) and tied for fifth in games played (121).
