TIFFIN, Ohio – Two goals from a pair of juniors in the second half brought The College of Wooster men's soccer team from facing a 1-0 deficit 50 minutes in to defeating Heidelberg University 2-1 on Wednesday.
Heidelberg's Simon Joseph broke a scoreless game with a one-time goal in the 48th minute to give Heidelberg a 1-0 lead. However, the lead was short lived as Will Yakubik received a cross from Andreas Xenofontos and scored in the 56th minute for his second career and first goal of the season.
The teams played even for close to the next 30 minutes until Connor Hawkins scored off a rebound in front of the net as time was winding down in the 84th minute. It was his first collegiate goal for the Scots.
Shots were hard to come by. Wooster took 11, and Heidelberg finished with eight.
Heidelberg struggled to take advantage of its five corner kicks. Wooster only took one.
Wooster goalie Will Collis picked up his third win after making three saves.
The men improve to 3-1-1 on the season and will travel to Marietta College on Sunday.
