WOOSTER, Ohio – The urgency to tie the game up late was there, but The College of Wooster men's soccer team took a 2-1 loss to Wittenberg University in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Saturday.
After a scoreless first half, Wittenberg got on the board first in the 68th minute with a goal from Christian Randazzo and assist from Scott Durham. It was Randazzo's first goal of the season.
Wooster answered 10 minutes later when Max Rochester scored off a rebound for his fourth of the year.
It became Wittenberg's turn to answer, and they did four minutes later in the 82nd minute. The Tigers got a call in their favor in the box, which resulted in a penalty kick goal from Alberto Zaragoza, his 10th goal of the season.
Wooster failed to capitalize on opportunities after that.
Alex Montalbano had a header that was saved on a dive by goalkeeper Jack Snider in the 84th minute. The Scots then had two chances back-to-back in the 88th minute with shots from Andreas Xenofontos and Rochester but neither found the back of the net.
Snider made four saves in net for the Tigers while his counterpart Will Collis collected five in the loss.
Wooster outshot the Tigers 16-12, and both teams took seven corner kicks. Rochester ended with seven shots.
With the loss, the Scots drop to 4-5-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the NCAC. Wittenberg is 6-6 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
The Scots will return to action Tuesday when they travel to Kenyon College.
