GAMBIER, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's soccer team fell 2-0 to Kenyon College on Tuesday in North Coast Athletic Conference play.
Kenyon, ranked 20th in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll, was led by a two-goal performance by Philippe Stengel.
Stengel scored just 10 minutes into the game off a deflection to give Kenyon the early lead.
The Lords kept that lead heading into halftime but almost lost it seconds before as freshman Jack Giloth took advantage of a rare miscue by the Lords. However, his shot attempt was saved by keeper Ian McInturf.
As the second half got underway, Kenyon took three corner kicks that did not amount to anything in a span of four minutes. Yet, a few minutes later, a 2-on-1 situation broke out, and Stengel scored his second goal off an assist from Brice Koval.
Later, Kenyon had another trio of corner kick opportunities and almost connected on a shot by Bret Lowry but a team save stopped it.
On the other end, Wooster had a couple of close calls. Max Hill had a header go wide in the 67th minute, and Charlie Krus had a free kick from near atop the box go wide in the 73rd minute.
Kenyon ended with 13 corner kicks to Wooster's three. They also outshot the Scots 14-11.
McInturf picked up his 10th win in net with four saves. Will Collis made four saves for Wooster.
Kenyon stays undefeated in the NCAC at 4-0. They are 10-1-1 overall.
Wooster is 4-6-2 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play. They travel to Oberlin College on Saturday.
