Burton's Header Gives Scots Second Straight NCAC Win

BJ Tally recorded an assist as he found Manny Burton for Wooster's lone goal of the game.

WOOSTER, Ohio -- All it took was a header by junior Manny Burton for the The College of Wooster men's soccer team to claim their second consecutive victory in North Coast Athletic Conference play after a 2-0 win against Hiram College of Wednesday.

With almost 23 minutes left in regulation, sophomore BJ Tally crossed a ball into the middle of the box, and Burton was there for the score. It was Burton's third goal of the season as the Scots improve to 6-6-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the conference.

Burton has now scored Wooster's last three goals including both in the Scots' 2-1 win over Oberlin College last week.

The game started slow with both teams combining for just seven shots in the first half. Burton had a prime opportunity a minute in but his first shot went high. Evan Lewandowski had a shot attempt block a couple minutes later, and Wooster's best chance to score in the first half was a header from Alex Montalbano that was saved.

Wooster ended up outshooting Hiram 14-10 and held the corner kick advantage 9-2. Goalkeeper Will Collis collected the shutout for his sixth win of the year.

Hiram dropped to 1-12-1 with the loss and 1-5 in conference play.

Wooster will return to action Saturday when they host Denison University.
