ALLIANCE, Ohio – A penalty kick goal was the difference Saturday as The College of Wooster men's soccer team fell to the University of Mount Union 1-0 in their season opener.

The Purple Raiders proved a tough task for the Fighting Scots. Mount Union was a 13-4-1 club a year ago with an undefeated record at home. The win was their 10th straight in home contests.

Wooster recorded just two shots in the first half and finished with seven in the game. Mount Union finished one better at eight.

The lone goal came in the second half after Wooster had a successful stop on a corner kick. However, a bump on the way out of the box was enough to warrant a penalty kick.

Jon Schroeder guessed correctly and went right, scoring in the 63rd minute.

Wooster tried to respond a minute later with a corner kick opportunity on the other end but failed to connect after a solid entry.

The Scots then had four shots for the remainder of the game. The last came with 30 seconds remaining as Manny Burton had an opportunity but goalie Zach Hlas got out in front and secured the win with a save.

Hlas recorded four saves. His counterpart, Will Collis, collected one in the loss.

Wooster (0-1) returns to action Wednesday when they host Heidelberg University in their home opener.
