Second Half Strike Downs Wooster

Zacharias Andreou finishes a header during the team's loss to Heidelberg on Wednesday.

Kokai Minami's 20-yard strike in the 55th minute was enough for Heidelberg University as they defeated The College of Wooster men's soccer team 1-0 on Wednesday.

The rocket from Minami soured Wooster's home opener and dropped the Scots to 0-2 early in the season. Heidelberg improved to 1-1.

Wooster had their chances throughout the game, outshooting the Student Princes 17-4. Just 36 seconds in, senior Max Rochester had a shot hit the post.

BJ Tally and Manny Burton each had shots saved within the first 10 minutes as Wooster could not capture the early momentum.

The end of the game mimicked the beginning as late opportunities were only thwarted by Heidelberg keeper Ryan Newman.

In the final 10 minutes, Bennett Anderson had two shots go wide. Andreas Xenofontos and Rochester each had shots saved, and Burton had a header go high.

Newman collected seven saves to record the shutout. His counterpart, Will Collis, stayed busy intercepting crosses but ended with just one save for the game.

Each team took five corner kicks.

Up next, Wooster hosts Washington and Jefferson on Saturday.
