COLUMBUS, Ohio – The difficult non-conference schedule paid off in dividends on Wednesday as senior Manny Burton scored twice, and The College of Wooster men's soccer team defeated 12th-ranked Capital University 3-1.

A header from Burton put Wooster ahead in the 38th minute off a long cross from the right side from Zacharias Andreou.

Wooster took the 1-0 lead into halftime just as they did in their previous game against 15th-ranked Calvin College. In that one, the first half was eerily reminiscent with a first half goal from Burton, but Calvin would go on to win in overtime.

This time, Wooster expanded their lead in the 60th minute after Burton received another cross in the middle of the field - again from Andreou - and scored his second goal of the game. The goal brought Burton's season total to a team-high three.

Capital went into desperation mode from that point forward and just six minutes later got a goal back off the foot from Greg Knox.

The one opening Wooster did have came late in the game when junior Andreas Xenofontos scored one himself in the 87th minute.

The Wooster defense stayed on their toes and senior goalkeeper Will Collis stayed busy including making a save on a penalty kick in the final 30 seconds. He finished with four saves.

Capital outshot Wooster 14-11 and took seven corners to Wooster's two.

Wooster is now 6-4-2 all-time against Capital. The Scots move to 2-5, while the Crusaders drop to 3-1-1.

Wooster returns home Saturday to face Muskingum University at Noon.
