College of Wooster newcomer Titas Bera continued his strong start to the season over the weekend, as he went 3-0 in singles against high-quality competition to highlight the Fighting Scots' results at the Oberlin Invitational.

Bera has been on a role since arriving on campus, with his most recent wins being the most impressive yet. The talented first-year defeated the projected No. 1 and No. 2 singles players from Denison University, a program that finished last season ranked 26th in NCAA Div. III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

First he upended Denison's No. 2 in straight sets (7-6, 6-2), and later he powered past the Big Red's top player 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4). Also over the weekend, Bera made quick work of an opponent from Case Western Reserve University, which was ranked eighth in the nation at the end of last year, by a 6-2, 6-2 count.

Joining Bera as winners in singles action were Jack Buchan, who went 2-1 including a win over Denison's projected No. 6, along with Willy Nelson, Jacob Pine, and Harrison Suttle.

The Scots' top-three doubles pairings each notched a victory as well, including Nelson and Milo Saurman 8-3 against a duo from Denison. Bera/Suttle and Buchan/Pine were also winners over Case Western Reserve and Allegheny College, respectively.

Next up, a select few Wooster student-athletes will make the trek to Indianapolis, Ind. to compete in the ITA Regional Championships on Sept. 26-29.
