Men's Tennis Competes in ITA Regionals

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The College of Wooster men's tennis team competed in the ITA Division III Men's Central Regional at Washington University this weekend.

In the singles draw, Joaquin Abos Amo met a familiar opponent in Denison University but fell to Timothy Cianciola 6-2, 6-1. Abos then lost his first match in the consolation bracket 7-5, 6-1.

Alon Liberman faced off against University of Chicago's Ninan Kumar and lost 6-1, 6-2.

Liberman had some success in the consolation bracket, kicking things off with a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 comeback win over Elliot Nuss of Oberlin College.

He then advanced to the next round on a bye and moved on from there with a 6-3, 6-2 win over William Sultan of DePauw University. He was ousted in the fourth round by Case Western Reserve University's Rajupet Siddhart 6-2, 6-3.

Austin Hanna lost 6-3, 7-6 to the 12th-seeded Matthew Chen from Case. Hanna then had the same trajectory in the consolation side as Liberman.

He defeated Brant Christensen of Lake Forest College in the first round 6-0, 6-3, took a bye in the second and then defeated Kalamazoo College's Henry Fuchs 6-2, 6-0. His run ended with a tough 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 loss to Andre Adam of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

In the UTR singles bracket, Nathan Devereux defeated Joseph Conrad of Rose-Hulman 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 before falling to Arthur Chau of Chicago 6-3, 6-3.

Nebyou Minassie took a pair of wins. His first was a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan University's Alexander Riess. He then defeated Otterbein University's Tyler Wharton 6-2, 6-4 in the next round before falling to WashU's David Buchinsky 7-5, 6-0.

To round up singles play, Ben Schrock came back to defeat Connor Christian from Ohio Northern University 0-6, 6-1, 1-0 but fell in the next round 6-1, 6-1.

In the main doubles draw, Devereux and Hanna defeated Augustana College 8-5. However, Chicago got the better of the duo in the second round 8-4.
