DELAWARE, Ohio – The College of Wooster men's tennis team narrowly lost 5-4 at Ohio Wesleyan University on Friday.
In doubles play, the Bishops came away with a 2-1 advantage after three tight matchups. Wooster's lone win came at the No. 1 flight where Nathan Devereux and Austin Hanna won 8-6, while the No. 2 and No. 3 flights dropped 8-6 sets.
Singles play was also highly contested as three of the matches took three sets to determine.
Wooster came out on top in the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 6 flights. Alon Liberman and Devereux had two of the easier outcomes with Liberman winning 6-2, 6-4 at No. 3 and Devereux winning 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4.
Nebyou Minassie won in the No. 6 slot after a shortened final set 6-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-3).
Hanna fell late in the No. 1 position 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. Joaquin Abos Amo won the first set in his No. 2 singles matchup but lost 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 6-4.
Finally, Jesse DeWitt fell in the No. 5 flight to Felipe Duarte Rico 7-6 (7-0), 6-2.
Next up, the Scots will face Northern Kentucky on March 1 in Columbus, Ohio.
