Scots Comeback to Defeat Principia to End California Trip

The College of Wooster men's tennis team fell behind 2-1 after doubles play but came back to defeat Principia College 5-4 to end their spring break trip in California on a high note.

Joaquin Abos Amo and Alon Liberman took the No. 2 flight 8-6 for the team's lone doubles win. The Scots then took four singles sets, including a final three-setter in the No. 4 flight to win the match.

Nathan Devereux sealed the win at No. 4 with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win.

Wooster won the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 6 flight in straight sets. Austin Hanna won at No. 2 with a 6-0, 6-2 final. Liberman did his part at the No. 3 spot with a 6-1, 6-1 win, and Jesse DeWitt won 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 6 flight.

Nebyou Minassie was on the wrong side of a close 3-set match, falling in the No. 5 spot 6-1, 4-6, 6-0. Abos Amo fell in the No. 1 spot 6-3, 6-1.

Prior to their final game, the Scots lost 5-4 to Vassar College and 6-3 to Chapman University.

Against Vassar, Wooster fell behind in doubles play and couldn't overcome the deficit. Abos Amo had a three-set win in the No. 2 flight 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The Scots won two more three set outcomes at No. 3 and No. 6. Liberman won at the No. 3 spot 6-3, 1-6, 7-5, and Minassie won 7-5, 1-6, 6-3.

Abos Amo and Liberman teamed to take the lone doubles win at the No. 2 flight 8-4.

Against Chapman, Hanna and Devereux gave Wooster its lone doubles win at the No. 1 spot 8-4. Abos Amo then won at the No. 1 singles flight 6-4, 6-4, and Minassie won at the No. 5 spot 6-0, 6-4.

Wooster (5-7) returns to the Midwest to face Denison University on March 30.
