The College of Wooster men's tennis team took charge in singles play, and in doing so, stormed past visiting Wittenberg University 7-2 on Sunday morning at Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster, Ohio.

Wooster (6-8) sophomore Joaquin Abos Amo posted the most impressive win in the match, as his 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles came over Martin Mora, who was 24th in the recently-released Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region singles rankings.

Wittenberg (8-5) carried a 2-1 lead into singles play before Wooster's bottom half erased the deficit prior to the top half securing the win, and then some.

First-year Nebyou Minassie dropped a single game during his 6-1, 6-0 fifth-flight victory over Nathan Baulch, while senior Jesse DeWitt posted a 6-1, 6-2 line at No. 6, and in doing so, moved the Scots into the driver's seat.

At No. 4, junior Nathan Devereux turned in a clean slate in the second set of his 6-3, 6-0 win over Timmy McNulty.

It was first-year Alon Liberman who provided the match-clinching point at No. 2 singles. Liberman downed Joe Patton 6-1, 6-1. Liberman's momentum carried over from doubles play, where he and Abos Amo quickly rolled past Baulch and Kieren Thomas, 8-0.

Classmate Austin Hanna closed the match with a 6-3, 6-4 win at third singles.

Next, Wooster travels to Oberlin College (5-8) for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday, April 7.
