Scots Open NCAC East with 7-2 Loss to Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio -- The College of Wooster men's tennis team could not get out of the gate quick enough in its NCAC East opener Sunday with a 7-2 loss to Oberlin College.

Alon Liberman and Nathan Devereux gave Wooster its two wins. Liberman won at the No. 2 flight 6-2, 6-2 and Devereux finished off Elliot Nuss at the No. 4 flight 6-2, 7-6 (8-6).

Wooster had two close doubles matches to start the match but fell 3-0 to start the match. Both the No. 2 team of Austin Hanna and Devereux and the No. 3 team of Jesse DeWitt and Nebyou Minassie fell 8-6.

Liberman's match was the first to finish when singles play started. However, straight sets at No. 5 and No. 6 gave Oberlin its fifth point for the match.

Joaquin Abos Amo won his second set in the No. 1 singles spot but fell in an abbreviated third set 7-5, 5-7, 10-8.

Wooster falls to 6-9 overall and 0-1 in the NCAC East. Oberlin moves up to 6-9 and is 1-1 in the NCAC East.

Wooster travels to Kenyon College for another NCAC East matchup on Tuesday.
