Sophomore Joaquin Abos Amo downed Ohio Wesleyan University's Jack Hibbard 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 to clinch the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament fifth-place match for The College of Wooster, 5-3. The Fighting Scots improved a spot from their pre-championship seeding with Saturday afternoon's win at Indianapolis, Ind.

Hibbard broke Abos Amo to start the third set, but the Scots' (8-13) sophomore broke back at 3-4, and then again at 5-4.

Wooster carried a 2-1 lead into singles, thanks to first-years Austin Hanna and Alon Liberman, who downed Felipe Duarte Rico and Hibbard 8-4. At No. 3, senior Jesse DeWitt and first-year Nebyou Minassie topped Miller Buckholz and Ryan Simon 8-3.

Prior to Abos Amo polishing off Ohio Wesleyan (14-15), Liberman won 7-5, 6-0 at No. 2 and junior Nathan Devereux earned a 6-0, 7-5 victory at No. 4.

Saturday's matched marked a redemption for Wooster, which fell 5-4 to Ohio Wesleyan during the regular season.

Noteworthy, Wooster's fifth-place conference finish is the program's top mark since the Scots were also fifth in 2008.
