Men’s Tennis Splits with DePauw and John Carroll

Alon Liberman won three of his four matches on Sunday as Wooster split matches.

The College of Wooster men's tennis team moved to 2-2 on the season after defeating John Carroll University 8-1 and falling to DePauw University 5-4.

Against the Blue Streaks, the men came out winning two of the doubles matches. Austin Hanna and Alon Liberman won 8-2 at the No. 1 flight, and Nathan Devereux and Nebyou Minassie took an 8-6 win at the No. 3 flight.

In singles play, Lieberman won his No. 1 flight in two sets, 6-3, 6-2, while Hanna did the same at the No. 2 spot 6-4, 6-4.
Wooster then needed three sets to win in the No. 3 and No. 4 flights. Joaquin Abos Amo won at No. 3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. Devereux won at No. 4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-2.

Minassie took a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5, and Nivaan Lobo won after falling in a second set tiebreaker 6-3, 6-7 (2-7), 6-4.

The Scots struggled on the offset against the Tigers falling in all three doubles matches, and lost the match following the conclusion of the first three singles flights. Of those three, Lieberman captured a win in the No. 2 flight, 6–2, 6-4.

Wooster then won the last three flights of the contest with shortened third sets in the fourth and sixth flights.

Abos Amo won at No. 4, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5), Minassie took a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 5 and Alex Drewes won at the No. 6 flight 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5).

Wooster returns to action Feb. 22 when they face Centre College.
