Chelsea Copley put her defensive skills on display Wednesday against Wittenberg.

The College of Wooster softball team opened North Coast Athletic Conference play by taking two from Wittenberg University on Wednesday, 6-2 and 7-4, for their first series sweep against the Tigers since 2005.

In game one, the Scots received another quality performance from sophomore Olivia Johnson. Johnson pitched the complete game, giving up just one earned run and striking out five to improve to 5-3 on the year.

Offensively, she was backed by a 3-for-3 performance from first-year Molly Likins who hit an RBI single in the fifth.

Wooster broke open a 1-1 game with a 3-run fourth inning. Marina Roski scored Likins on a RBI single to give the Scots a 2-1 lead, and Torrey Totman padded the lead with an RBI single of her own. An error made it a 4-1 game as Samantha Tromba came around to score.

Wittenberg got one back in the fifth, but Likins' RBI as well as Grace Randall's RBI gave Johnson enough run support to get through game one.

In game two, Wooster used a 6-0 fourth inning to wipe away a 1-0 deficit. Emmalee Cooke hit a two-run double, and Roski recorded another RBI single. Tromba also doubled to score Emma Schwinne.

Marissa Norgrove (4-3) pitched six innings of two-run softball. The Scots ran into a little trouble in the top of the seventh, but Johnson was able to come in and record her first save of the season.

Eight batters recorded at least one hit for the Scots. Randall finished 2-for-4 for the only multi-hit performance.

Wooster moves to 11-7 overall and 2-0 in the conference, while the Tigers fall to 4-16 and 0-2 in the NCAC. Wooster hosts Kenyon College (13-11) in another NCAC doubleheader on Saturday.
