OBERLIN, Ohio — The College of Wooster softball team almost did not make it to nine consecutive wins on Tuesday, but a late rally led to a sweep over Oberlin College, and the Scots tied the program's longest winning streak.
Both games were decided by one run as Wooster won by scores of 3-2 and 7-6.
In game one, a sacrifice fly by Emmalee Cooke scored Samantha Tromba in the sixth as Wooster held on for the win.
In game two, Wooster trailed 6-2 after five innings, but a two-run home run from Heidi Likins in the sixth and a three-run seventh changed the course of the game.
In the seventh, Wooster did all their scoring with two outs. Molly Likins extended the game with a one-run double, and Gabby Lakes followed with a game-tying single.
Marina Roski then hit a shot right at the shins of the third baseman. Oberlin could not recover in time and the infield single scoring Tromba would be the eventual game-winner.
Olivia Johnson did double duty on the mound, picking up wins in both games.
In game one, she pitched the complete game, and both runs scored were unearned. In game two, she entered after Marissa Norgrove and Katie Agatucci struggled and went on to compile three innings of hitless, scoreless softball.
Offensively, the Scots combined for 16 hits between the two games.
In game one, Roski went 2-for-4. Torrey Totman had the only extra base hit with a double, and Lakes added an RBI on a fielder choice in the third.
In game two, everyone in the starting batting lineup recorded a hit. Roski again went 2-for-4. Cooke went 1-for-2 in the leadoff spot, walked twice and scored three runs.
Wooster is now 17-7 overall and a perfect 6-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play. Oberlin drops to 9-15 and a 2-6 record in the NCAC.
The Scots will head to Muskingum University on Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader.
