The College of Wooster women's softball team had no easy task if they wanted set the program record for consecutive wins, but they managed to get not one, but two wins over Muskingum University (24-8) to extend their winning streak to 11 on Thursday.
Wooster won 6-3 in game one and 6-5 in a nine inning affair in game two.
This was Wooster's fifth consecutive doubleheader sweep for a winning streak that started on March 27. The previous record was nine, which last happened back in 2005.
In game one, Muskingum's Haley Hawk threatened the streak after hitting a 3-run home run to take a 3-0 lead in the fourth. That ended up being Olivia Johnson's only blemish on a complete game performance that saw her strikeout 12.
Wooster, who was held to just four hits in the first five innings, got runners on and brought five home during the top of the sixth.
A walk and two singles from atop the lineup loaded the bases before Molly Likins and Gabby Lakes hit back-to-back doubles as each brought home two runs.
Two outs later, Johnson helped herself out with an RBI single to center field, scoring Katie Agatucci.
The Scots added one more run in the seventh behind a RBI single from Grace Randall, which scored Kendall Lloyd.
Muskingum left runners on the corners and the tying run at the plate after grounding out to short to end the game.
Cooke, Randall, Lakes and Johnson each recorded two hits.
In game two, Chelsea Copley and Lloyd homered to back starter Marissa Norgrove. Copley hit a solo shot in the third, and Lloyd hit a 3-run bomb in the fifth.
Norgrove, however, was knocked out in the fifth and replaced by Johnson. Johnson got the Scots out of the fifth and took a 4-3 lead into the seventh.
However, it was Hawk who got to Johnson again with an RBI single to tie the game 4-4.
Heidi Likins made it 5-4 with an RBI single in the eighth, but Muskingum answered with one of their own in the bottom of the inning.
In the ninth, Lloyd collected her game-high fourth RBI on a single to left center. Johnson then put together a 1-2-3 inning to secure the win.
Johnson, who pitched 4.1 innings and gave up one earned run in game two, took the win in both game to improve to 10-3 on the year.
Lloyd finished 2-for-5 in game two, as did Randall. Copley went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Wooster is now 19-7, and they travel to Denison University on Saturday.
