GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The College of Wooster softball team left nine runners on base and had the tying run at the plate in the seventh as they were eliminated from the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Sunday with a 5-2 loss to Denison University.

Denison was responsible for both Wooster losses, including a 4-3 nine inning outcome in the first game of the tournament on Friday.

The Big Red took momentum in the second inning with a two-run home run to left field from Laura Bagan. A one-out double in the third then chased starting pitcher Olivia Johnson from the game.

Marissa Norgrove came on but allowed the inherited runner to score as the first three batters she faced all recorded hits. A score later in the inning on a wild pitch made it 4-0.

Wooster got one back in the fourth when Gabby Lakes singled up the middle to score Brooke Swain. Two fielder's choice plays left two on base to conclude the inning.

An RBI double in the bottom of the inning brought the deficit back to four.

In the fifth, the Scots had the bases loaded with one out but two fielder's choice plays again got Denison out of the inning.

Wooster had runners on second and third with one out in the sixth, but this time Wooster scored a run on a sacrifice fly from Katie Agatucci. However, they left a runner stranded on third to end the inning.

Finally, in the seventh Morgan Bailey was called upon to pinch hit as the tying run at the plate with two outs but grounded out to second.

Wooster's eight hits were all singles. Molly Likins and Kendall Lloyd each with 2-for-4.

Johnson dropped to 15-6 with the loss. Colleen Hoffman took the win for Denison.

Lakes, Lloyd and Marina Roski were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Denison moves to 22-13 with the win. Wooster closes the season out at 26-13 having set the program record for wins in a season in their last game out.
