Victoria Rumph, The College of Wooster's head softball coach, is spending her summer as a member of the Canadian Wild.

Rumph, a member of Softball Canada's National Team since 2013, is competing with her national teammates in the National Pro Fastpitch League, as the National Team has set down roots in southern Illinois this summer in preparation for the upcoming World Baseball Softball Confederation Tokyo Olympic Games' qualifier, set to take place later this summer.

"It is a great opportunity for our program to be a part of the National Pro Fastpitch League," said Rumph. "This summer we're playing significantly more games than we ever have in preparation for the Pan American Games and the Olympic Qualifier. By playing against the best players in the world so often, we will be well prepared for the most important part of our season in August."

The Canadian Wild is in the midst of a 45-game schedule that started May 28. Seven of those games will take place at Sprenger Stadium in Avon, Ohio this week, with action taking place June 12-16. The National Pro Fastpitch schedule can be viewed HERE. Tickets are $6 for general admission and $9 for the home plate box area.

Later this summer, Team Canada will serve as host of the Americas Olympic Softball Qualifier, which will be staged from Aug. 25-Sept. 1 in Vancouver. Up to 16 National Teams will compete with the top two advancing to the six-team Olympic softball event at the Tokyo 2020 Games. The USA National Team has already qualified for the Olympics by winning the WBSC Women's Softball World Championship last year, while Japan has been granted an automatic entry in the 2020 Olympics as the host country.
